Devara: Part 1 is an upcoming Telugu-language action drama film written and directed by Koratala Siva. It is produced by Yuvasudha Arts and N.T.R. Arts. The main actor in the film is N.T. Rama Rao Jr., with Saif Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor in supporting roles.Devara: Part 1 is an epic action saga set in coastal lands; it features thrilling and emotionally charged events over a period of time. The story centers on the titular protagonist, who acts as a hero, rescuing those in need and confronting evildoers.

The film was officially announced in April 2021 under the working title NTR30. The official title was revealed in May 2023. By the end of 2023, it was decided to split the film into two parts. Photography for Devara: Part 1 started in April 2023 and wrapped up in August 2024.
The film was shot in Hyderabad, Shamshabad, and Vishakhapatnam. Some scenes were also filmed in Goa and Thailand. The music was composed by the famous Indian film composer Anirudh Ravichander, with cinematography by R. Rathnavelu and editing by A. Sreekar Prasad.
Devara: Part 1 will be released worldwide on September 27, 2024.

Development

In February 2020, N. T. Rama Rao Jr. and Trivikram Srinivas were set to work together on a film tentatively called NTR30, after their previous film Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava (2018). The project was to be produced by S. Radha Krishna and Nandamuri Kalyan Ram under Haarika & Hassine Creations and N. T. R. Arts. However, in July 2020, Koratala Siva announced AA21 with Allu Arjun, produced by Sudhakar Mikkilineni’s Yuvasudha Arts. Both projects did not proceed as planned.

By April 2021, it was announced that Rama Rao and Siva would team up for NTR30 after their previous collaboration on Janatha Garage (2016). The film was officially confirmed on April 13, 2021, with Yuvasudha Arts and N. T. R. Arts co-producing. Production was delayed due to Siva’s work on Acharya and Rama Rao’s involvement in RRR.

Originally scheduled to start on February 24, production was delayed due to the death of Taraka Ratna and Rama Rao’s involvement in the RRR Academy Awards campaign. The film was officially launched on March 23 with a puja ceremony in Hyderabad, featuring the cast and crew, and a muhurtam shot by S. S. Rajamouli. The title Devara was announced on May 19, 2023, just before Rama Rao’s birthday. On October 4, Siva revealed that the film would be split into two parts.

Music

Anirudh Ravichander, who has previously worked on Telugu films like Agnyaathavaasi (2018) and Jersey (2019), is handling the music for this film. This marks his fourth Telugu project and the second time director Siva has chosen a different composer from his usual collaborator, Devi Sri Prasad. Anirudh started working on the soundtrack in November 2022.The film’s music rollout began with “Fear Song” on May 19, 2024. This was followed by “Chuttamalle” on August 5, 2024, and “Daavudi,” which was released on September 4, 2024.

Release

Devara: Part 1 will be released in theaters on September 27, 2024, in multiple languages, including Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada. Initially set for April 5, 2024, to coincide with the Ugadi weekend, the release date was first pushed to October 10, 2024, due to extensive post-production and VFX work, and later revised to its current date.
The distribution rights for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were sold for ₹110 crore. The Hindi version was sold for ₹45-60 crore. Non-theatrical rights, including digital, satellite, and music rights, were sold for ₹250 crore.

Distribution

For the Hindi-dubbed version, the rights were acquired by Dharma Productions and AA Films. For Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Sithara Entertainments acquired the rights. In Karnataka, the rights were secured by KVN Productions and SS Karthikeya. In Tamil Nadu, the rights went to Sri Lakshmi Movies. For North America, the rights were acquired by Hamsini Entertainment.

The digital rights for the film were acquired by Netflix.
