Kalki 2898 AD: A Blockbuster Success

Kalki 2989 AD is a Telugu-language (Indian) film. The film was directed by Nag Ashwin and Produced by Vyjayanthi Movies. Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone and Disha Patani are main character of this film. This film is based on Hindu scriptures. It has its own universe like MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) and that is called as Kalki Cinematic Universe.

The film was announced in February 2020 with the working title “Project K”. The official Title was announced in June 2023. After official announcement, the fan of this film was very excited. People was very positive for this film.

Plot

The story begins in 3102 BC, during the ongoing Kurukshetra War. Ashwatthama attempts to kill Uttara’s unborn child. Lord krishna gave a curse of immortality to Ashwatthama for his dirty act. Also Lord Krishna take divine gem from Ashwatthama, and give order to protect a mother of Lord Kalki, A Lord Vishnu’s 10th and final Avatar(reincarnation).

In 2898 AD, 6000 years after the events of the Kurukshetra War, in Kashi-a city that stands as the last bastion of civilization-rule is held by a Supreme Yaskin. Yaskin rules govern the ‘Complex,’ a floating, inverted-pyramid structure that hovers above the surface. He made a team of some people, who protect against threats, especially rebels from the hidden city of Shambhala, who are convinced of the prophesied arrival of Lord Kalki.

In this society, fertile female refugees in Kasi are forcibly taken to the Complex for Project K, where they are used in an experiment to produce a secretive serum for Yaskin through artificially inseminated fetuses. This project Yaskin known as Project K.

Raia, a young girl from Shambhala, disguises herself as a boy and escapes from the guardians of Kasi with a divine gem. Eventually, she meets Ashwatthama and gives him the gem. Ashwatthama places the gem on his forehead and, upon doing so, realizes that a woman is pregnant with Lord Kalki. Together, Raia and Ashwatthama set out to find this woman.

Meanwhile, at the Complex, the pregnant woman escapes with the help of the Shambhalan rebels, who rename her “Sumathi.” On the way to Shambhala, Sumanthi is attacked by many bounty hunters. One of them, named Bhairava, is accompanied by his AI superar, Bujji.

The soldiers from the Complex locate Sumanthi and the Shambhalan rebels. Bhairava and Ashwatthama arrive and engage in battle, with Ashwatthama ultimately defeating Bhairava. He then takes Sumanthi to Shambhala, where he reveals to Raia that he is a warrior from the Kurukshetra War. Meanwhile, Bhairava strikes a deal with Manas to capture Sumanthi in exchange for gaining entry into the Complex.

Bhairava manages to deceive a rebel into taking him to Shambhala. They both proceed to Shambhala in search of Sumanthi. Ashwatthama asks Sumanthi to flee Shambhala with him.

In Shambhala Bhairava and Ashwatthama again fight for Sumathi. In the middle of the fighting, Manas arrives with his forces to capture Sumanthi. Shambhala’s leader, Mariam, attempts to protect Sumanthi from Manas but ultimately fails.

Manas nearly captures Sumanthi, but an unexpected event causes Ashwatthama’s stick to fall into Bhairava’s hands. This reawakens both the weapon and Bhairava, revealing him to be a reincarnation of Karna. With his newfound power, Bhairava defeats the invading soldiers and kills Manas.

Afterward, Bhairava returns to his original form and takes Sumanthi away in his AI supercar, Bujji, while Ashwatthama watches.

In a mid-credits scene, Yaskin uses a drop of serum extracted from Sumanthi’s fetus on himself, partially acquiring the power of the unborn Kalki. He transforms into a youthful superhuman with four magical limbs and picks up Arjuna’s bow, Gandiva. Yaskin then vows to personally capture Sumanthi and her child to reshape the world.

Kalki 2898 AD grossed ₹180 crores worldwide on its opening day, making it the third highest-grossing Indian film for a first-day collection. Kalki 2898 AD India’s first day collection is ₹95 crores. Kalki 2898 AD is India’s biggest opening collection of 2024. The film crossed ₹250 crores in just two days.

The film crossed ₹1100 crore in 31 days and became the fourth highest-grossing Indian film of all time in India, surpassing Shah Rukh Khan’s Javan (2023) in 40 days.

Updates

On release date, film’s directer Nag Ashwin commented on Kalki 1898 AD: Part 2 and stated that they start production for Part 2 in three years.

During the mid-credits of the film, it is revealed to be part of a media franchise named the Kalki Cinematic Universe, which had been previously teased in Bujji and Bhairava, a prequel series released before the film. On June 29, 2024, producer C. Aswani Dutt announced that 60% of the filming for Kalki 2898 AD: Part 2 has been completed, with several major segments still remaining to be shot.
